Mahwah, NJ, Wednesday 21 June 2023 – Jaguar TCS Racing head to Portland, one of the greenest cities in the United States, for round twelve of the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The British team are ready to take on the final debut track of the 2023 season at the Portland International Raceway. The American circuit covers 3.19km and 12 turns which promises wheel‑to‑wheel action and exhilarating overtakes. A setting fit for a dramatic race, with stunning views of Mount Hood and Portland’s abundance of green spaces, this unique city adds to an incredible list of destinations in the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

In the last round of the World Championship, Jaguar TCS Racing came away with crucial podium points for Mitch Evans, who now sits fourth in the drivers’ standings, with teammate Sam Bird currently in eighth place. Combined, Jaguar TCS Racing sit third in the team standings’, just 43 points behind Porsche, who currently hold the top spot. With the strong competition witnessed in Formula E so far this season, it is all to play for in the final rounds.

Everyone at Jaguar TCS Racing is looking forward to being back in the United States and racing on US soil in what will be our final new circuit of the season. Racing in Portland will bring the thrill of Formula E to a new audience, and we embrace the challenges and opportunities that come with this high‑speed and technical track. Coming into the final rounds of the 2023 Season, we understand what we need to deliver to stay in the championship fight. Naturally teams will start to feel some pressure and intensity rise at this stage, instead we are focused on our approach and strategy and the objective which is to execute the best performance that we can.

I was pleased to come away from Jakarta with a podium and some points, and hope to keep building momentum in Portland as we reach the final three locations. I’m looking forward to the new track, it’s well‑known in American motorsport categories so it will be great to bring Formula E to this circuit for the first time. I can’t wait to get out there and keep my sights on the top spot!

Portland is a new circuit for Formula E, featuring 3.1km and 12 corners, it promises to be a super high‑speed track. It features two of the longest straights we’ve had on this season’s calendar, which will require our drivers to hit that breaking point correctly. Turns four to six offer corner‑to‑corner action, so that will be a really exciting part of the lap. Compared to the normal street surfaces we’re used to, Portland International Raceway provides a good, flat surface to race on. Expect to see lots of overtakes, lots of slipstreams, and a really tactical race.

ABOUT JAGUAR TCS RACING 

Jaguar returned to racing in October 2016, becoming the first luxury manufacturer to join the all‑electric ABB FIA Formula E Championship street racing series. In season eight, Mitch Evans finished as runner‑up in the drivers’ standings – his most successful result in Jaguar TCS Racing’s Formula E campaign. 

Formula E is a real‑world test bed for Jaguar with its journey to becoming an all‑electric luxury brand from 2025. Jaguar TCS Racing’s goal is to ‘Reimagine Racing’ and together the team will test, develop, learn and collaborate, sharing insights across JLR which will benefit future road car development. Specifically, learnings and technology transfer from Formula E will help ‘Reimagine” the Jaguar brand coinciding with the company’s commitment to the Gen3 era of Formula E. 

2023 is the first year for the teams to be racing with the Gen3 car, the world’s first net zero race car.  

As an official manufacturer team in Formula E, Jaguar TCS Racing designs its own powertrain, which includes the motor, transmission, inverter, and rear suspension. Jaguar, via its long‑term Formula E technical partner Williams Advanced Engineering, will supply Envision Racing with its powertrain for the Gen3 era. 

To control costs, the carbon fibre chassis and battery are common components and the same for all eleven teams. This allows the focus to be on developing efficient and lightweight electric vehicle powertrains which will improve the performance and range of future JLR electric vehicles. 

Teams have two race cars, one per driver, which will be used for the full race distance.  

Beyond its all‑electric concept, Formula E is unique in the world of motorsport for its choice of venues. The 2023 championship takes place on temporary street circuits in the centre of the world’s major cities including Mexico City, Diriyah and Rome, with new locations including Hyderabad, Cape Town, and São Paulo. The season finale plays out across a double‑header race weekend in London.  

In 2022, Jaguar TCS Racing finished fourth in the teams' standings with seven podiums, four wins, one pole position, one fastest lap and 231 points scored – the team’s biggest points haul to date. New Zealander, Mitch Evans finished last season as runner‑up with Sam Bird finishing thirteenth overall in the drivers’ standings. 

Formula E remains a key priority for JLR and the company’s Reimagine strategy. As the premier all‑electric world championship, Formula E allows us to test and develop new electric vehicle technologies in a high‑performance environment.
